DIY Coffee scrub
WARNING: MAY STAIN BLONG OR BLEACHED HAIR. Use with caution.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the best way to solve a problem is to tackle the root cause (ha!). So if the pandemic made you purchase a Nespresso machine, don’t rush to dispose of those used pods. You can use them for an awesome DIY coffee scalp scrub, that will help you jumpstart a healthy, hairy growth, or maintain what you already have.
WHY COFFEE?
The benefits of coffee scrub are due to its composition:
- tocopherol (vitamin E): enhances blood flow to the hair follicles and supplies them with oxygen;
- caffeine: strengthens the roots, helps fight dandruff;
- sterols: awakens dormant follicles, makes the strands denser;
- chlorogenic acid - protects hair from the negative effects of the environment;
Regular use of coffee scrubs can solve a number of issues related to the health and appearance of your hair. It helps:
- stimulate hair growth;
- prevent or treat dandruff;
- improve metabolic processes in cells by improving microcirculation in the surface layers (read: micro massage);
- remove dead skin particles that clog pores;
- normalize the work of the sebaceous glands (“oil producing” glands);
- rejuvenate the skin and stimulates collagen production.
RECIPE
Now that we learned about the benefits and mechanics of the scrub, lets get to the actual recipe. You can just use it with warm water, but to add some viscosity and make the application easier and less messy you will need the following:
- 1 teaspoon of paraben and silicone free shampoo or conditioner
- 1 teaspoon of coffee (from those Nespresso pods:))
- 1 teaspoon of fine sea salt (optional - for additional cleanse)
Mix all the ingredients together, and apply to damp scalp before shampooing. Massage and wash off with warm water and shampoo. Follow with our Scalp Serum for additional results.
We recommend NOT using the scrub more than once a week, as it can lead to over-stripping of the protective layer of the scalp and have a reverse effect on hair growth. Balance in everything is key after all!
